Samuel C. Nana-Sinkam PhD

President & CEO

Mr. Nana-Sinkam has more than 35 years of international experience. Prior to forming MAECI, Mr. Nana-Sinkam was appointed by the Secretary General of the UN, Koffi Anan, as his Special Representative in Guinea Bissau. He also serves as Director of the Joint FAO/ECA Department in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa; Member of the Executive Committee of the Club of Rome; and as Country Director in many African Countries. Mr. Nana-Sinkam was also appointed as Minister of Economic and Finance in Cameroon, and serves as Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) representing more than 27 African countries. Mr. Nana-Sinkam was a professor at the University of Dauphine, Paris, France, and also a Senior Risk Analyst and Advisor with Chase Manhattan Bank New York, USA. Mr. Nana-Sinkam has extensive background in finance, acquisition, and disposition, which gives him a global understanding of the company’s goals and objectives. Mr. Nana-Sinkam holds a PhD in Economics- Development Theory and Practice, from the University of Poitiers, France; a Master Degree in Statistics and Econometrics (INSEE, Paris, France); a Masters Degree in Economics & Finance and a PhD in Economics, Monetary & Finance, from George Washington University, USA.

Christopher J. Massaro

Senior Vice President

Mr. Massaro has more than 20 years of experience in investment banking and business operations. In addition to his position with MAECI, Mr. Massaro is CEO and Principle of HR Performance Sites, and Managing Partner of The Source. Prior to forming The Source, Mr. Massaro served as President of CJM Strategies, a private middle market investment banking firm, was a Vice President with Gottesman Company, the largest middle market investment banking firm in the U.S., and spent over 15 years as the owner and Executive Vice President of Vilotti-Puratos, a $25 million food manufacturing and distribution company. He serves as Vice President of The Living Through Cancer Foundation, and serves on the executive board for the Radnor Educational Foundation. Chris holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Villanova University.

Mr. Jean Atangana

General Manager- Africa

Mr. Atangana has over 20 years of international experience before joining MAECI in Africa. He is a Sailor, Deck Officer, Captain First Class, with degrees in maritime navigation and industrial fishing.

Since 2015, he has been responsible for the deployment of MAECI Solar in Cameroon and the sub-region through a network of independent and permanent consultants.

Prior to joining MAECI Solar Cameroon, Mr. Atangana is a specialist in electrical engineering, former ship’s captain at the autonomous port of Douala, specialized in port offshore towing with particular skills in security, fire fighting and survival at sea (STCW95 certificate of competence).

As a political leader in Cameroon, he has held managerial positions in companies (exploitation, production, operation, logistics), became an economic operator (CEO of JDA CONSULTING LTD and International Construction & Engineering Group Ltd (I.C.E.G LTD)), and is an approved judicial expert before the Courts of the Coastal Court of Appeal in Cameroon (agro-industry, automotive mechanics, maritime and transport).

He has special skills in engineering with specialization in renewable energy engineering, trading, amangement, international intermediation, electrical engineering, mechanics and industrial auditing.

He has effectively contributed to the implementation of several agro-industrial projects on behalf of MAECI in Equatorial Guinea. He is continuing this work in Cameroon, Chad, the Republic of Sao Tome & Principe and others.

He is fluent in French and Spanish with an average level of English.

Aydin Basceken

Senior Project Manager & Technical Lead

Mr. Basçeken has extensive experience in unusual and innovative project management, project developement and engineering and design in renewable energy field. His recent activities include developing several renewable projects and managing Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Finance operations and O&M phases of alternative energy sources implementations in a global aspect.

Mr. Basçeken has led several power distribution and transmission projects in Turkey and Turkmenistan as “Site Engineer”, “Site Manager”, “Construction Manager” and “Project Manager” respectively, while he was working for Kar-pa and Ersan Companies. During his cooperation with Kar-pa and Ersan companies, the most important project experience was Power Distribution implementation of Yolöten Gas Field Development Project which is the World Second Biggest Natural Gas Reserve.

Mr. Basçeken worked with Kolin Construction Company as a Special Projects Management Controller. Mr. Basçeken has successfully completed several EPC+F implementation including, 60MWe Solar PV Project Development, Electromechanical Packages of Istanbul Grand Airport Project (World Biggest Airport), High Speed Railway Projects and Utility Scale Power Distribution Grid Implementations and Renovations.

Also, 100MWe Solar PV Implementation experience with Phoenix Solar AG who is specialized Solar PV EPC+F Contractor.

John Kirk

Senior Technical Adviser

Mr. Kirk is a Civil Engineer with more than 25 years of experience around the world (USA, Latin America, Europe and Africa) in civil engineering works. Mr. Kirk has directed industrial plants set up and operation. He also serves as adviser on the Board of many Civil Engineering Companies

Serge Patrick Nana-Sinkam MD

Vice President and Technical Adviser

Dr. Nana-Sinkam is Professor and Chair of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. He previously was Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Ohio State University.

Dr. Nana-Sinkam received his medical training at Wake Forest University School of Medicine followed by a residency and chief residency at the University of Michigan. He completed training in both Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado and served on faculty prior to moving to Ohio State. Dr. Nana-Sinkam serves on editorial boards for Lung Cancer Frontiers and Clinical Medicine: Circulatory, Respiratory and Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Nana-Sinkam maintains an active lung cancer clinical program and a funded research program that focuses in the following areas:

  • Elucidating the role of recently discovered microRNAs in lung tumor development and progression

  • Utilizing genomic and proteomic platforms coupled with computational modeling to understand the molecular heterogeneity of lung cancer

  • Examining the role of prostaglandins on endothelial survival in tobacco related lung disease

Alain C. Nana-Sinkam

VP of Financial Planning & Analysis

Alain Nana-Sinkam has more than two decades of experience in the financial services sector with Global Fortune 500 companies. He currently is Head of Strategy and Channel Management for a.i.m., a supply chain solutions provider in the automotive wholesale space. Previously he served as Head of Business and Corporate Development for TrueCar (NASDAQ: TRUE) a digital automotive marketplace.

He also served as a Vice President of Business Development for Wells Fargo Financial, a subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Co., and 4th largest bank in the US. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Alain worked in Sales and underwriting for the auto finance arm of HSBC Bank. Alain has developed, implemented and maintained financial controls and standardized policies that reduce costs and streamline financial communications (operating budgets, capital budgets, debt financing, deal structuring and risk management). Mr. Nana-Sinkam holds a BA in Journalism from the University of Delaware.
